Comprehensive Solutions for Optimal Health

Rooted in the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and cupping have been practiced for thousands of years to stimulate circulation, relieve pain, and restore the body’s natural balance. This holistic approach considers the entire person, mind, body, and energy flow to promote healing, support acute symptoms, and enhance long-term vitality.

Hormones act as messengers throughout your body, impacting bone density, mood, metabolism, and nearly every major physiological function. As hormone levels naturally shift with age, bioidentical hormones, structurally identical to those your body produces, offer a safe and effective way to restore balance and well-being during perimenopause and menopause.

Getting to the root of your health concerns starts with the right data. We offer access to a broad range of functional and specialty laboratory tests to uncover hidden imbalances and tailor your treatment with precision.

Most people think of nutrition as something we chew and swallow, but optimal nourishment doesn’t always come from food alone. When the body is under stress, recovering from illness, or functioning below its potential, absorption through the gut can become compromised. In these cases, high-dose vitamins and minerals delivered intravenously offer superior absorption and a targeted therapeutic impact.

Desiccated thyroid is a prescription medication derived from porcine thyroid glands that contains a full spectrum of regulated and standardized thyroid hormones. It can help restore energy, metabolism, and hormone balance in cases of an underactive thyroid, also known as hypothyroidism.

Dietary strategies are used to support healing, optimize function, and both address and prevent disease. Through personalized nutritional interventions, we aim to correct underlying imbalances, reduce inflammation, and enhance the body’s innate resilience. This approach not only targets current health concerns but also promotes sustainable vitality and long-term wellness across all systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Naturopathic medicine is ideal for:

  • Individuals aiming to prevent illness and promote overall wellness
  • Those experiencing symptoms unmanageable through conventional methods
  • Patients without a clear diagnosis seeking alternative perspectives
  • Anyone looking for natural approaches to acute or chronic conditions
  • Individuals desiring to integrate natural therapies with conventional treatments to reduce side effects and enhance quality of life

In Ontario, Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) cannot prescribe the full range of pharmaceuticals available to Medical Doctors (MDs). However, under the Naturopathy Act, 2007, NDs are authorized to prescribe, dispense, or sell certain substances, including:

  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Amino acids
  • Botanical medicines
  • Bioidentical hormones (estrogen and progesterone) in topical or suppository forms

To prescribe these, NDs must complete the Ontario Prescribing and Therapeutics course and examination.

NDs undergo rigorous education, including:

  • A four-year accredited naturopathic medical program
  • Over 4,100 hours of classroom instruction in medical sciences and naturopathic therapies
  • 1,200 hours of supervised clinical practice

This comprehensive training equips NDs to provide holistic and individualized care.

Naturopathic services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). However, many extended health insurance plans do offer coverage for naturopathic treatments. It’s advisable to consult your insurance provider for specific details.

Philosophy:

  • MDs often focus on diagnosing and treating symptoms using pharmaceuticals and surgery.
  • NDs emphasize a holistic approach, seeking to identify and address the root causes of health issues through natural therapies.

Training:

  • Both MDs and NDs complete undergraduate degrees followed by four years of medical education.
  • NDs receive additional training in natural therapies and may opt for a two-year residency, though it’s not mandatory.

Licensing:

  • NDs in Ontario are regulated by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
  • MDs are licensed by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Patient Care:

  • NDs typically spend more time with patients, with initial visits lasting 60–90 minutes and follow-ups ranging from 30–60 minutes.
  • While naturopathic care isn’t covered by OHIP, many extended health plans provide reimbursement.

An integrative approach, combining both MD and ND perspectives, often yields the best health outcomes.

Consider the following when selecting an ND:

Accreditation: Ensure they graduated from a recognized naturopathic medical institution, such as:

  • The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Toronto, ON)
  • Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (New Westminster, BC)
  • Bastyr University (Seattle, WA)
  • National University of Natural Medicine (Portland, OR)
  • Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (Tempe, AZ)

Licensing: Verify they have passed the necessary board examinations and hold a valid license.

Specialization: Determine if they focus on specific conditions or therapies that align with your health needs.

Comfort Level: Many NDs offer complimentary 15-minute consultations to assess compatibility.

Location: Use resources like Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors to find practitioners in your area.

Your initial appointment will last approximately 75 min and includes:

  • A comprehensive review of your medical history
  • Discussion of your primary health concerns
  • Initial recommendations or a plan to develop them after further research

Follow-up visits typically range from 30 to 60 minutes. Together, we’ll create a personalized and achievable treatment plan tailored to your health goals.
